Samara Metro

The Samara Metro, formerly known as the Kuibyshev Metro, is a rapid transit system serving the city of Samara, Russia. Opened in 1987, it has one line with ten stations and approximately 12.7 kilometers of bi-directional track. The system is managed by Samarsky Metropolitan, a municipal company privatized by the Russian government in the 90s. The Samara Metro transports 44,000 passengers daily.

• The system is operated by Samarsky Metropolitan, a municipal company that was privatized from the services of the Russian Railways Ministry in the early 1990s.
• The company is responsible for all management of the system, including tunneling and track, rolling stock, management and repair of stations and even planning and coordinating construction works.
• Rolling stock is provided by a single depot Kirovskoye which is responsible for the management of all cars. There are currently 11 four-coach trains assigned to the system. These are all model 81-717/714, although some are .5 standard.
• Completion of the first line was originally planned for 2015. However, much of the development was halted for political, financial or bureaucratic reasons.
• Work at two stations, which were initially meant to lengthen the first line, has been stopped because it threatened buildings of historical and cultural value.
• The second line is 8.77 kilometers in length and has six stations. Its construction will take place as part of the program for the development of Samara's transport system, planned for the time period between 2014 and 2025.
• The ride costs 12 rubles if you have a transport card and 15 rubles if you pay with tokens. The ticket will cost 23 rubles if you carry luggage.
