Line 1 Overview
Catania Metro Line 1 is Sicily's only metro system. The metro was inaugurated on June 27, 1999, and currently consists of a single 10.5-kilometer line with 12 stations, connecting areas such as Nessima, Stesicoro, and Giovanni XXIII near the city's central railway station. The system has been expanded in several phases, including extensions opened in 2016 and 2017. Future expansion projects are also planned, including extensions towards Catania Fontanarossa Airport and the city of Paterno.
