Green Line Overview
The Green Line opened on August 11, 1980. It was later extended to Newcastle Airport in 1991 and southward to Sunderland and South Hylton in 2002, using the former heavy rail corridor. The line runs between the airport and South Hylton, is 37.5 kilometers long, and has 30 stations. It also shares tracks with the Yellow Line between Pelaw and South Gosforth, providing vital connections to Newcastle city center, Gateshead, and Sunderland.
