U1 Line Overview
The U1 is the longest line in the Hamburg U-Bahn network and was first opened on December 1, 1914, between Kellinghusenstrasse and Ohlsdorf. The line was extended in various stages, including the Langenhorn route towards Oxenzoll and the Walddorfer Railway towards Volksdorf. From Volksdorf, the line splits into two branches—one towards Ohlstedt and the other towards Grosshahnsdorf. The final northern extension, from Garstedt to Norderstedt Mitte, opened in 1996. The U1 line is 55 km long and has 47 stations.
