Central Line Overview
The Central line first opened on July 30, 1900, as the Central London Railway between Shepherd's Bush and Bank. In the 1920s and post-war years, the line was gradually extended towards western and eastern London. Later extensions connected the route to Ealing Broadway in the west and Epping in Essex, creating one of the longest routes on the London Underground network. Today, the line runs from Ealing Broadway to Epping, through central London, and this approximately 74-kilometer-long line has 49 stations. It also provides interchange with numerous Underground, Elizabeth Line, and National Rail services.
