District line Overview
The District line gradually developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, coinciding with the expansion of the Metropolitan District Railway into London. The Richmond branch became part of this line in 1877, while the eastern extension later reached Barking, East Ham, and finally Upminster in 1905. Today, the service from Richmond to Upminster passes through major stations in west, central, and east London, such as Earl's Court, Victoria, Blackfriars, and Tower Hill. The route also provides interchange with numerous London Underground, Overground, Elizabeth line, and National Rail services across the city.
