District line Overview

The eastern section of the District Line gradually extended into East London and Essex between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Extensions finally reached Upminster in 1905, creating the longest eastbound Underground corridor at the time. Today, the route from Mile End to Upminster passes through key stations such as Whitechapel, Barking, and East Ham, and also connects to numerous Underground, Overground, Elizabeth Line, and National Rail services.
