District line Overview
The District line gradually developed through several railway and Underground extensions in the late 19th century. The Richmond branch opened in 1877, while the eastern extension reached Upminster in 1905. Today, the service from Richmond to Upminster passes through major stations in west, central, and east London, such as Earls Court, Victoria, Blackfriars, and Tower Hill. The route also provides interchange with numerous London Underground, Overground, Elizabeth line, and National Rail services across the city.
