Its first phase operated between Shanghai South Railway Station and Jiangwan Town, while its northern extension to Xiangyang North Road opened in December 2006. The line runs between Shanghai South Railway Station and Xiangyang North Road. The line is 40.2 kilometers long and has a total of 29 stations.
