U5 Line Overview
The first phase of the U5 line was opened on 21 December 1930, between Alexanderplatz and Friedrichsfelde. The line was later extended towards East Berlin in several stages, finally reaching Hönow in 1989. A major western extension from Alexanderplatz to Berlin Hauptbahnhof opened on 4 December 2020, connecting the former U55 shuttle line to the main U5 route. The U5 line is 22.1 kilometres long and has 26 stations, connecting central Berlin with eastern districts such as Lichtenberg, Hellersdorf and Hönow.
